THE NEST

When William Grimes, the leader of an exploration team from an Arctic research facility, goes crazy while exploring an ice cave and kills two colleagues before dying himself, psychologist Jack Burrell is sent up to counsel the staff at the facility. Among his patients is the head of the facility, Robby Archer, a friend from his boyhood. It is not a happy reunion. Many years earlier, when they were 10 years old, Jack was hailed as a hero when he saved Robby's life, pulling him from a river after he and his brother Matt fell through the ice. But Robby remembers only that, in order to save him, Jack let go of Matt's hand and watched him slip under the icy water. Now they learn that they must work together. Grimes has infected the facility with polar mites, a strange, ant-like species which take up residence in the warm tissue of the human body and create a sort of psychosis. Even worse, the infection was no accident, but a scheme by the facilities doctor, Dr. Sean Mauser, to use the staff as a breeding ground for a powerful drug the mites leave behind. As all around them go mad, and as they struggle with their past, the two men team up with Jack's fiancee, Rachel, to try to control the infestation and find a cure.
