THE CHOICE

Aggie Travers (Thora Birch) is different. She is an outcast at her elementary school, and when she doesn't get along with people, mysterious things happen. Because it appears that Aggie is responsible for these strange occurrences, she is suspended from school. Her parents, Joe (Page Fletcher) and Leslie (Sandra Nelson) are distressed by the situation, and in a last ditch effort, decide to hire a nanny to care for their troubled child. The first candidate, Karen Ross (Megan Follows) is perfect, almost too perfect to be true. She immediately bonds with Aggie, understands her, and the Travers family is delighted to see their daughter making progress. However, this tranquillity is disturbed when a secret investigation starts pointing to Karen as the prime suspect in the disappearance of a young girl. It appears Aggie is Karen's next intended victim. Terry Walsh (Matthew Walker), the official heading up the investigation, tracks Karen down through her friend Jean Anderson (Frances Sternhagen). Even though it appears Karen may not have Aggie's best interests at heart, the two women are actually trying to save Aggie from officials like Walsh. Karen and Jean also have telekinetic powers like Aggie, and they have dedicated their lives to keeping these special children away from government control. Walsh successfully foils Jean and Karen's first attempt to save Aggie. But in a final confrontation at the Travers' home, an impressive display of psychic power convinces Aggie's parents that they must lose their only child to guarantee her safety.
