BLOOD BROTHERS

Spencer (Charles Martin-Smith) and Michael Deighton (Martin Kemp) are trying to carry on the legacy of their recently departed father Cameron, founder of Metadyne, a pharmaceutical research company known for its innovative medical breakthroughs. Unfortunately, this innovative spirit is not shared by the two brothers who are jockeying for the coveted position of CEO. The brothers are complete opposites. Spencer spends his days in the lab with his colleague Carl Toman (Thomas Cavanaugh), trying desperately to find cures for fatal diseases. Michael, on the other hand, oversees the financial aspects of the company and pushes for the development of more lucrative drugs, such as Jericho, which can be used by the government as a crowd control device to contain riots. While developing what promises to be a profitable but potentially deadly drug for the government, Spencer inadvertently discovers a possible vaccine that virtually ensures immortality. As a scientist, he understands the need to further test and monitor the vaccine, but he is ready to share his findings with the world. Meanwhile, Spencer becomes romantically involved with an attractive young reporter, Tricia Lange (Kate Vernon), in whom he finds a soulmate, someone he thinks has the good of mankind at heart. When Michael finds out that his brother and Carl have discovered the vaccine, he becomes obsessed with concealing the discovery as a means to controlling not only the future use of the vaccine, but the future of humanity. So when it appears that Carl is about to expose the vaccine, Michael disposes of him. Assuming that Tricia will leak the story to the press, Michael tries to kill her also, and nearly succeeds. By the time Spencer discovers the flaw in the vaccine's formula, it is too late. Believing he is cheating death, Michael injects himself with the vaccine, and becomes maniacally affected by it. Spencer and Tricia find themselves trapped by Michael in the Metadyne lab, facing the same death that Carl did. Spencer's scientific knowledge defeats Michael, who is undone by his own greed and fear of mortality. In the end, things are seldom what they seem, and the so-called "miracle cure" turns into a rapid trip to self-destruction.
